ITW Proline hires Upstream to reduce printing costs

ITW Proline, which has over 250 staff across Australia, saw its printing requirements were increasing every year resulting in higher operating costs and placing a burden on the administration of printing devices.

“As the company grew through the years, we bought more printers and spent more money running them,” said Frangee Ampil, IT manager at ITW Proline.

“We eventually needed more toners, more paper and importantly more time maintaining the devices.  The administrative headache just kept getting bigger.”

Taking over the management of the current document output fleet, Upstream has optimised the number of printers, introduced multifunction devices and reduced personal use devices, providing a single point of contact for visibility and cost control.

Additionally, Upstream installed its environmental tracking and reporting software called ‘U-Track’ at ITW Proline.

U-Track monitors printing levels and provides reports on the equivalent number of trees used, the amount of greenhouse gases (carbon) released and how much energy is expended in the production of printed output by every user across the company.

“Our administrative workload on maintaining the printing devices has been reduced significantly.  My staff can now actually get on with the primary responsibility of managing our IT systems and resources properly,” said Ampil.

“Furthermore, sharing information with ITW Proline staff on exactly how much paper output each user generates draws attention to their printing habits.

“We can then develop programs which encourage changing printing behaviors, helping us to reduce our paper consumption and consequently our carbon footprint in the future.”

Full training on how to use the new printers, including scanning and duplexing functions, has been provided.

There are plans to work with Upstream to apply solutions towards improving and automating document workflow processes for ITW Proline.

“In the current economic climate, companies are looking to reduce their IT costs but often underestimate how much they spend on printing,” said Neil Tilley, executive director, Upstream Print Solutions.

“ITW Proline saw an opportunity to reduce these costs and through working with Upstream, they have not only increased the efficiency of their IT processes but they no longer need to worry about maintaining their print fleet, leaving them free to get on with running the business.”
