Jason Smith to lead Clark & Mackay as it ‘turns an exciting new page’

Jason Smith has taken over the full responsibilities at Clark & Mackay as its sole owner and managing director, as the company looks to build on its strong history and growing success.

Clark & Mackay, which was a fourth-generation Brisbane print operation run by the Mackay family, was sold to Smith and Ocean Reeve Publishing’s Ocean Reeve in November 2020, with Smith now confirming that the sale was independent of Ocean Reeve Publishing.

Smith has since bought out Reeve from the partnership, with the latter having no further affiliation with Clark & Mackay moving forward.

Smith told Sprinter that the business has “turned an exciting new page towards the future”, with the company still holding on to the same name and values that it has had over the years.

“There is no change to locations or operations, other than we are focusing on improving service, and are expanding our book printing business and capabilities in 2023,” he said.

“While the technologies are everchanging, the family values will remain as the pillars of success.”

Smith said he hopes to bring further generations into the business.

“Clark & Mackay has a unique spirit; something that can only come from a business that has been around for generations,” he said.

“The family history will always be ingrained within Clark & Mackay. We want to embrace the past and harness those values to propel us into the future. Watch this space as we will have some exciting announcements about Clark & Mackay in the coming months.”

In true family style, the connections remain steadfast with Clark & Mackay’s third-generational founder Neil Mackay offering support.

“I am thrilled to see the business live on through Jason’s vision and trust that the core values of wholesome family ideals and quality service will remain as we look to the future,” Mackay mentioned.

Founded in 1928 when Bert Clark and John Mackay set up their hand-fed and foot-powered printing presses in Brisbane City, Clark & Mackay is one of the oldest remaining printing firms in Queensland.

Now based in Acacia Ridge, it offers book and general printing services across Australia. From commercial, and digital printing to full mail, finishing, and book publishing services, it has a full suite of products and services to assist individuals and businesses.
