JPE welcomes NSW printing industry to annual event

CPI chief executive Bernard Cassell, who is also president of the Australian Paper Industry Association (APIA), was one of two guest speakers at the annual JPE Industry Review Night. He offered a rousing argument regarding the sustainability of paper.

Cassell noted that APIA’s drive was to “defend and promote the sustainability of paper” in an impassioned speech to quash the misrepresentation of the paper industry in the public eye.

Dr Christopher Caton, chief financial officer of BT Financial Group and a regular at the event, rounded off the evening with an entertaining forecast of what the future holds for the Australian economy.

Caton addressed the economic growth of developing countries and shed some light on where the Australian market is set to sit in this rapidly changing financial climate.

JPE president Steven Gamble said the quality of last night’s event was once again above par but conceded that overall association numbers were lower than he would like.

Gamble, who is northern region sales manager for Bottcher, announced that JPE has been offered a stand at the forthcoming PrintEx11, with the group planning to capitalise on the opportunity by hunting for new members.

“Typically the JPE is made up of printers and sales executives; we are hoping to use PrintEx11 to expose our association to different groups of professionals.”

Gamble said JPE members numbered around 40 and noted that he would be proactive in increasing membership levels.
