Konica Minolta launches ‘one stop’ booklet finisher

Konica Minolta Australia has developed its next generation booklet making finisher, which it says is the first in market that does not require third party assistance. The new SD-513 Saddle-Stitch comes with added features, such as a square spine function, top and bottom trimming to allow for a trim down to full bleed, and creasing, to reduce any toner cracking at the fold line. Konica Minolta product marketing manager Grant Thomas says the Saddle-Stitch fills a void in the market for a machine which can produce high quality, finished booklets.

Thomas explains, “It now gives a quality finished output that does not require offline finishing. That means the machine output can be picked up from the output tray and delivered to the customer. “Some other booklets still need a manual component added, whether it’s cutting top and bottom or creating a finished edge, that all can be done in a one step process.” Thomas says similar machines made by competitors require third party assistance to make the same booklet the Saddle-Stitch can produce in one go. Konica Minolta has targeted the machine towards commercial printers, on-demand booklet manufacturers, and businesses which are looking to produce in-house presentation materials. Konica Minolta says the Saddle-Stitch is capable of producing thick booklets up to 140 pages, on a wide range of paper sizes with media weights from 50 to 300gsm, and also has the option of two or four position stitching. For added convenience, Thomas says the Saddle-Stitch can be added to all bizhub press models, “In the case that a customer already has a product, we can add this to their system to give extra value to the output they are producing.” Those interested in the SD-513 Saddle-Stitch can contact Konica Minolta for a showroom demonstration.
