Labelmakers says the print industry’s doom and gloom phase has ended as the company records more than 10 per cent revenue growth for the year. Speaking with Australian Printer, Aiden Lyons, Labelmakers NSW division technical sales manager, says carton and packaging work is on a tear with the lower Australian dollar.
Lyons says, “We have increased our sales by more than 10 per cent since last year and there are lots of promising signs. It’s not necessarily doom and gloom as everyone seems to think. “There is quite a bit of work coming back into the country with the shift in the dollar, so we have been able to pick up some work with the local packaging contract networks. “Similar growth has been experienced in the digital hub in Sydney, as well as our carton division. Melbourne is quite diverse because we have a large range of offerings with flexbiles, shrink and labels, so we are getting the growth not just from one area.” He says while most of the areas in the business are growing there are segments that are not performing well. Lyons says, “Some segments of the market, such as pharmaceuticals, are experiencing a downturn with work going overseas. “On the flip side, a lot of work such as FMCG is coming back, so it’s definitely positive and the outlook is good.” He says one of the key differences in the way Labelmakers is growing the business is by engaging the marketing teams of its customers. “We have been getting generic growth through the digital business, which is where we are dealing more and more with the marketing teams rather than the procurement people,” Lyons says. “We are selling the product rather than the cost. A lot of the stuff we are doing with our customers is engaging them with what the technology can do rather than being priced based.

“So whether it be customer emotion, interaction with the product, or promotional brand management we are engaging our clients on every level to ensure they see the value of producing great products. “We then piggyback that with some of our bigger clients which is also resulting in some big sales.” With operations in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, WA and New Zealand, the group produces a wide range of label solutions such as self-adhesive, cut and stack, BOPP wrap around, IML, shrink sleeves, ROSO, promotional, VIP and REFID.
