Largest laminator goes into Christchurch

The new highly automated Lamtex Diamond 102 from the United Kingdom has replaced four machines at Lamination and Digital’s plant.

With a stacker on one end and a stream feeder at the other, the Lamtex machine takes sheets straight from the pallet and delivers them directly onto a pallet at the other end, greatly reducing handling.

While the machine is targetted at larger run work, Lamination and Digital’s manager Russell Taylor says that it is also very efficient for shorter runs.

The quality of the machine’s output is ideal for prestige jobs such as magazine covers and postcards.

Taylor says that the reason for the installation was market demand for Lamination was increasing, and existing plant was struggling to keep up. This new machine will run a 1020 wide sheet the same direction as the printing press that printed it, at up to a maximum line speed of 95 metres/minute.

“A lot of large 4 or more colour printing presses up to 40 inch have been going in around Christchurch over the last couple of years. But, until now, nobody has had the capacity to laminate the work that comes off them, in a short time frame.”

A case in point was the 14,000 SRA1 sheets that were recently delivered to Lamination and Digital. Taylor says the company was able to get the job done and delivered the same day: “We couldn’t have done that without this machine.”

Lamination and Digital has grown over the years to offer a range of
services, including digital imaging and wide format printing, alongside its lamination offerings.
