Ken Fletcher, Le Mac’s general manager of research and development, told ProPrint he looked at a variety of products but was sold on the width of the Dotrix.
“With some of the options available in the marketplace, the width would be a serious limitation for us,” he said.
He added that the width and the speed of the Dotrix made it “a highly productive machine for the kind of work that we do”.
The Sydney-based label and decorative packaging company will initially use the :Dotrix Modular for all jobs under 5,000 metres.
Fletcher said customer had been impressed by the output. “There has been a limited showing of samples to customers but those we’ve shown have been very enthused by it.”
The Le Mac Australia Group was established in 1983. It will install the Agfa :Dotrix Modular in mid-2010.
The Agfa Dotrix Modular can print at up to 24 metres per minute, hitting 907sqm per hour.
The machine’s configuration can be changed at any point, even after configuration, hence its “modular” nature. Upgrades include an optional speed increase to 32 metres per minute.
