Ball & Doggett offers one of the industry’s most extensive ranges of certified products, with 86 per cent of its products meeting FSC and or PEFC standards.
“Given our global sourcing reach, Ball & Doggett is uniquely positioned to support innovation, working closely with customers and their end clients on significant new product development opportunities,” explains Rob Brussolo, general manager for sign display and digital at Ball & Doggett.
The company actively collaborates with suppliers and brands to pilot new innovations – the latest partnership with Kongsberg as an example.
“Our award winning ecoporium by Ball & Doggett platform has been a crucial resource for our printers, converters and brand owners to have visibility to our product offering in our labels and packaging division and access to insights from Australia’s subject matter experts,” Brussolo said.
Tangible benefits, measurable value
Ball & Doggett continues to expand its sustainable media product portfolio significantly, bringing to market a broad range of high-performing, sustainably accredited materials that are validated and meets the compliance in terms of brands meeting their sustainable targets.
Commercial papers providing innovative experiences on the presses include Crush, ecoStar + and Renewal Hemp along with many others (just jump onto the company’s new website!) Exciting developments in its signage boards include EcoDisplay Board, which creates endless opportunities for brands to stand out in the crowd.
More significantly, Ball & Doggett has welcomed back CMPC’s GC1, GC2 and RC Kraft grades which aligns to brands with a focus on FSC certified products.
Behind the scenes the company is bringing to life an industry-first closed loop program from recyclable PP products.
Ball & Doggett has also invested in an elevated ERP system to enhance operational efficiency – enabling smarter warehousing, reduced transport emissions through stock consolidation, and improved inventory control.
“These innovations not only offer tangible environmental benefits but deliver measurable value,” Brussolo said.
Partnering for success
According to Brussolo, over the next two to five years, Ball & Doggett aims to evolve by closely aligning with its supply chain to sustain growth across all areas of the business.
“We are excited to be working on projects that will soon be a market stand out in terms of creating solutions never before thought possible in one segment in particular,” he said.
“Collaboration is crucial to success – and we applaud our suppliers in navigating this rapid time of change and bringing to the table NPD options for us to explore and test. Our access to global suppliers that continue to innovate is part of our charm and offering.
Longer term, Ball & Doggett anticipates industry growth will be strongest where supply chains are verifiable, substrates are fit for purpose for application and function, and partnerships are built on shared accountability.
“Partnerships that are strategically aligned, having honest dialogue on challenges and leaning into experts within our team at Ball & Doggett. This space is evolving in terms of print technologies aligning with the applicable substrates and we will be in a world where compliance is the norm and printers and converters are prepared, more resilient and ready to adapt.
“This is especially true in food packaging, where global innovation is accelerating to address the dual challenge of functional performance and reducing food waste.
“Traceability and compliance are becoming non-negotiable, with technologies like RFID, digital watermarking, and QR-based data systems emerging as critical enablers. These enhancements allow real-time tracking, chain-of-custody verification, and improved recycling outcomes.
“Printers aligned with suppliers offering these solutions – combined with sustainable materials and validated certifications – will be best positioned to lead in a market driven by performance and productivity.”
Building a sustainable future
Printers must invest in supplier relationships that go beyond price, according to Brussolo.
“The future lies in working with distributors who offer compliance support, data-backed sustainability, and alignment with evolving industry frameworks. However, to truly stay ahead, printers also need to invest internally – by building sustainability capability within their teams.
“This means engaging specialist consultants who can map out pathways for operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and competitive advantage. Education should be embedded into the business, with dedicated resources to stay informed on legislation, standards, and best practices.
“Leading from a lens of curiosity, not just compliance, will position printers to innovate and influence.”
