LEP to double Melbourne production

Trade printer LEP will double production at its Melbourne operation with an extra shift, as it ramps up its southern expansion with new work from local clients.

The company says it has reached single shift capacity just four months after opening its Melbourne site, a duplicate of its Queensland operation, because it is ‘inundated’ with work from new and existing Victorian clients.

Chief executive John Bromfield says the Port Melbourne has been readily accepted by clients in the southern states.

“We are boosting our production hours to handle the volume of work they’re sending our way, as they take advantage of the turnaround times and faster freight handling the facility offers them,” he says.

LEP will run two shifts five days a week with a sixth day for general maintenance, cleaning and for overtime during busy periods. The main Queensland site runs three shifts.

The company has hired several new employees to fill the shift and is still looking for a print operator and bookbinder.

“We are filling the new positions with experienced print professionals who are ready to provide the print quality our customers have always enjoyed from LEP,” Bromfield says.

“We are confident that our extra shift will enable us to provide even better service and faster turnarounds for all our customers.”

The 1500sqm Port Melbourne facility is a duplication of the Queensland plant, and uses the same print technology, including a Ryobi 925 press, Agfa process-free plates, Heidelberg, MBO, G&K and Osako bindery equipment.
