LIA honours top Queensland graduate

Held in the D’Arcy Mitchell room at the Broncos Leagues Club in Brisbane, the night was well attended by 64 members of the local printing industry, including the nine finalists and their colleagues and family.

The finalists were Lee Armstrong (press) of GSM Press, Claire Calder (prepress) of Talbot Press, Stephen Carpenter (finishing) of Penfold Buscombe, David Foulds (finishing) of PMP Print, Karen Johnston (prepress) of Moore Business Systems, Matthew Mulhall (prepress) of Colourscan, Peta Ray (prepress) of Carpentaria Newspapers, and Amanda Todkill (press) of Visypak Industries, along with Whitaker.

Whitaker was awarded the Heidelberg trophy by Jim Darcy, Heidelberg Queensland manager, with his employer, Tony Scanolon, receiving the employer’s award. A special judge’s medallion was presented to Peta Ray in recognition of her work at the Mount Isa Carpentaria Newspaper. All finalists were awarded a framed certificate.

The LIA/Heidelberg Graduate of the Year Award is awarded to the top student in each state, with the winners becoming eligible to win the LIA/GAMAA National Graduate Award to be presented at the next LIA Biannual Conference in 2005.
