Haefeli will succeed current MD, Peter Wilton, who, following a handover period, will leave the company to pursue other business interests.
"I am very pleased and excited to be joining MAN Ferrostaal at such an important stage in the company’s development," says Haefeli.
"The company has a well-established reputation for the excellence of its technical solutions and I’m looking forward to presenting these products and technologies to the local industry."
MAN Ferrostaal is known throughout the region as a premium provider of high-end equipment to the printing and packaging sectors, representing a number of market-leading brands such as MAN Roland, Bobst, MBO and Kolbus, and offering some of the most advanced production equipment solutions on the market.
"Our challenge now is to build on this brand awareness to deliver genuine value, service and competitiveness to our customers," says Haefeli.
"I'd like to thank Peter Wilton for his hard work and leadership over the past couple of years during which time he has helped lay the foundations for a successful and secure future."
During his time in charge, Peter Wilton has overseen significant changes to the company’s operations and organisation in the region including the transition from the former Intergrafica Print & Pack to MAN Ferrostaal and the changes associated with the conversion of MAN Roland to an independent press manufacturing company.
"This has been a period of considerable structural change and re-organisation, always with the view to building a stronger, more customer-focused business," says Wilton.
"I'd like to thank all our staff for their hard work and dedication during this time and wish Markus all the best for what promises to be a bright future for the company."
Bernd Ahlmann, senior vice president, MAN Ferrostaal AG, praised Peter Wilton's contribution in establishing MAN Ferrostaal as a successful, customer-orientated business in Australia.
"Peter’s experience and management skills have been a critical factor in helping us to overcome the challenges encountered during this period of important restructuring and refocusing," says Ahlmann.
"Our outlook in the region now is much more positive than in previous years and we are confident that Markus is well-placed to build on this foundation and take the company to the next level."
Haefeli is a familiar figure in the the region's graphic arts industry having previously managed Ferag Australia for six years up until his departure last year.
During his time in charge at Ferag, he was instrumental in establishing the company as a major all-round supplier of finishing and mailroom equipment, digital prepress and consumables.
