Maroondah Printing invests in Intec

Ringwood printer Maroondah Printing is the first Australian company to invest in the Intec LP215, a digital label printer.

Rob and Melissa Pruis, owners of Maroondah Printing says they have grown a good business over the past 30 years, surviving on the traditional fare of the standard offset printer, business stationery, leaflets and newsletters.

“Whilst we feel we have continued to keep pace with the changing landscape of the print industry with digital and CTP over the years traditional offset continues to be challenging and you need to be the lookout constantly for other opportunities.

“I have always been of the belief that packaging and labels are the two areas in this industry that will continue to be strong. We have printed flat sheet labels for a number of clients over the years but have found a growing demand for labels on rolls in the last 18 months,” says Pruis.

Pruis says they were not going to invest in another printer but when they saw the Intec they could not refuse.

“For a smaller entry level type machine I was impressed with its speed print quality. As well as the ability to print on such a wide range of materials including synthetics, textured and clear adhesives (including white toner for the clear). The big selling point though was the finishing unit which can custom cut any shape you want. Simply send a die line to the machine and it will cut that shape.

“It will then weed the excess material and slit the master roll into smaller rolls allowing multiple jobs to be run at the same time. It can even cut different shapes for each label across the width of the web. The installation was seamless and the training was clear and comprehensive. Our first job running in a couple of days. We are excited with the possibilities this machine will give us going forward,” Pruis says.

The fully specified LPS215 label printing and finishing solution includes the LP215 label printer, LCF215 label finishing solution and the Intec RIP pod complete with PC workstation and all the software needed to produce on demand labels. The LP215 printer is capable of printing onto a vast array of die-cut, matrix removed and retained media, as well as continuous roll substrates.

When the labels have printed transfer the roll to the LCF215 for finishing. The unit includes easy roll loading for gloss or matte lamination, any shaped label contour cutting, matrix (waste) removal and roll slitting. Combining robust engineering with precision registration; with up to 3 registration marks available.
