Melbourne printer credits Presstek DI press with turning business around

Company owner Phil Van Dijk said the secondhand Presstek 34DI had helped the company print jobs so quickly it allowed him to get out and look for new work.

“Before we got the machine, I had thoughts about where we would be in five years time and if I would have to wind things down,” he said.

“But the machine has allowed us to win new work and revolutionise our pressroom.”

The machine is a fully automated press, which can image, roll on and off plates, print up to 300 lines per inch and reach speeds of 7,000 sheets per hour.

“The advantage is that you are not wasting all of your pre-press time,” added Van Dijk.

“From the moment the artwork is ready to go there is no wait time. The machine lines the plates up correctly every time and the quality is usually spot on.”

Van Dijk added that despite its ‘digital’ branding the machine still needs the care and attention of an offset press.

Tim Sawyer, Presstek’s director for Asia Pacific, said: “Although the press has only been installed at their shop for a short time, it has more than lived up to its promise to improve the company’s competitive edge, retaining and growing existing customers while enabling the company to bring new customers on board.”
