National Print Awards appoint chief judge

Jennifer Baile has been appointed Chief Judge of the 2017 National Print Awards (NPA), while the deadline for submissions has been extended to March 31.

Baile has experience judging for the awards, having been a participant judge in the 2015 and 2016 editions. She says, “It is a great experience and amazing opportunity to see the calibre of work created by our industry, and it continues to blow my mind every year with printers pushing technology to the absolute limit.”

Beyond the criteria set out in the NPA, Baile says what she and the other judges are looking for is creativity and innovation.

This means “Creativity on how they are using their printing technology to create something remarkable” she notes.

“Trade, offset, labels, digital, every year across every category we are surprised. People take the everyday and push it to do something extraordinary. It makes us ask: how did they do it?”

Australian Printer asked Jennifer Baile which works were her favourites in previous years, but she kept her cards close to her chest, not wanting to influence the work people produce.

“I would not want to deter anyone from entering, or make people concerned that they could not do what such and such did.

“We actively encourage the whole industry to participate. It is a great event and a great way to be recognised for doing outstanding work.”
