New national sales director for News suburbans

Galloway is currently sales director News Interactive. He replaces Rod Harris who has been appointed advertising director The Sunday Times in Perth.

MacLeod says Galloway’s appointment shows the importance placed by the company in growing its national advertising business.

“Over the past two years under Rod’s guidance, our sales team has significantly increased the profile of suburban newspapers among national advertisers and John will continue to drive extra revenue from this area”, says MacLeod.

“John has a long background in newspaper advertising and extensive experience in working with media buying agencies”.

Galloway started his advertising career in newspapers in the UK including The Scotsman and The Edinburgh Evening News. He moved to Australia in 1987, working at The Age as display advertising sales manager and The Sydney Morning Herald as deputy display advertising manager.

He joined News Limited two years ago as News Interactive general manager classifieds, which saw him establish and grow the successful CareerOne and CARSguide employment and motoring sites.

“Community newspapers are going through an exciting period of growth and I am looking forward to working with advertising agencies and generating new business opportunities for them and for our newspapers”, says Galloway.

Managing director News Interactive, Nic Jones, says: “John’s grown our revenues well beyond market levels and much as I am sorry to lose him, this is a fantastic opportunity not only for him but for News Interactive to work even more closely with the community newspaper network”.

Galloway takes up his new role in April.
