Evans decided to step down and not to contest a position at the recent NIPPA elections. Colleagues and industry vendors from throughout Australia and New Zealand paid tribute to his contribution at a presentation during the recent conference dinner held in Alice Springs.
NIPPA president, David Harrison, asked the audience to take a minute and reflect on the commitment it takes over a ten year period. “Ten years is a long, long time to be willing to serve on a committee – and don’t forget, this is on top of managing a busy University print operation!”.
Evans has served on the committee of management as both treasurer and then ordinary member during two name changes, served with three presidents and attended countless teleconferences and meetings. He recently managed the Awards project in which a range of awards specifically aimed at recognising members’ contributions to the industry and the association could be recognised.
In other election results, David Harrison, Martin Booth and Graeme Pleming were re-elected unopposed as president, vice president and secretary/treasurer respectively. John Kirk and Karen Birch were elected as ordinary members.
Birch is the first New Zealand representative on the committee of management and her election reflects the Australasian focus of NIPPA over recent years. Rob Roberts from Massey University has taken on the role of inaugural president for the New Zealand (Eastern) branch.
