Oce chases Xerox in mid production

In response to a media question, Oc’s chief of digital document systems Jan Dix says he is pleased that Xerox had publicly announced they are competing with Xerox and that Océ was ready to take up the challenge.

"The Docutechs should be replaced and we want to take a major part of that market," Dix says.

The new Océ product – the Varioprint 2100 – is a 105 print per minute device aimed at commercial and coporate printrooms and offering printing, copying and scan-to-file.

In launching the 2110, Oc’s marketing director for digital document systems Eric de Goeijen announced that the product was a logical extension of Oc’s historical presence in the production market, which stretches back to its award winning Océ 2500, launched in 1989. The 2110 is stacked with features that place it firmly at the high end of the mid production market, according to de Goeijin.

"The print engine doesn’t slow down when printing complex jobs like tabbed documents, inserts and mixed media. Similar to input, the output capacity is also unlimited. Trays can be unloaded during productionn. As a result, it produces long, unattended runs from input right through to output," says de Goeijin.

On the back end, Océ has also stacked the 2110 with features that open it up to a wide range of uses: "So, next to the sttandard finishing capabilities of the Océ VarioPrint 2100, the system has an open finishing interface allowing easy connection to a wide variety of online binders, high-capacity stackers or booklet makers," says de Goeijin.

At the front end, there are also several options. The device can be driven by Océ Doc Works or Océ Prisma+Pod, part of the Prisma suite.

"By optimising every step in production workflow, this software can improve print shop and printroom efficiency by up to 40 per cent," de Goeijen says.

The first products will be available in June, with full rollout beginning in July.
