The IPMG printer grabbed 10 gold awards on the night, including three in the web offset publications with cover price category, and two in the web offset printing heat set division.
Craig Dunsford, general manager of Offset Alpine told Australian Printer that success in the PICA’s is important to the company as it helps to maintain Offset Alpine’s reputation for quality.
He says, “It also helps to support our client’s decisions to use Offset Alpine to produce their valuable work and most importantly it provides our wonderful staff with recognition for their hard work and dedication.
“Our consistent commitment to training and education, health and safety and the environment continues to build on the skills and capability of our staff which allows our business to positively evolve.”
Geon was also a big winner on the night picking up four gold awards, brining the Group’s national tally to seven, after it took home three gold at the recent Victorian PICA Awards.
Warwick Roden, chairman of judges for the NSW PICAs, addressed guests on the night saying while the job of the judges is challenging, it is also rewarding as it enables them to view and recognise some of the best print the country has to offer.
He says, “For the judges it was three days of solid concentration in order to select the winners, with the judges having to justify their decisions when the competition was close.
“It was also particularly interesting to see the entries in the digital categories, which really improved this year.”
Roden also noted that there were not as many “really high class and spectacular entries” this year compared to some of NSW’s previous awards, however he added that this was likely due to client’s reluctance to spend money post GFC, rather than any lack in printers’ capabilities.
Other notable wins on the night included STI Lilyfield who grabed gold in the Booklets, catalogues and magazines bound by any method but saddle-stiching category, as well as the Packaging – cardboard substrate category.
Meanwhile, Graphic Services took home gold in both the Security or specialty printing, and Limited editions or art reproductions categories.
