Optimus to help Australian printers access government grants during roadshows

The MIS vendor is linking with the federal government’s Enterprise Connect Manufacturing Network, a $251m program to help local manufacturers become more productive and profitable.

Business manager Jim Street told ProPrint that Optimus was focusing on lean manufacturing with its Optimus 2020 and Dash (pictured) products.

He explained that implementing lean techniques could open the door to up to $20,000 of government funding for a $40,000 project.

The Manufacturing Network can provide SMEs with a business review and benchmarking through one of its “highly skilled business advisors” on areas such as strategy, best practice, and growth opportunities.

Through Enterprise Connect, the government will reimburse half the cost to engage consultants for change projects such as supply chain management, lean manufacturing and strategic business planning, up to a maximum of $20,000.

Street hopes this “government freebie” will be a major drawcard for its roadshows.

The roadshows run from 8-18 June across Australia, and are intended to reach printers who don’t get to see the new MIS products at Ipex.

There will be two shows per day, starting in Sydney on 8-9 June, then Brisbane on 10-11 June, Melbourne on 15-16 June, Adelaide on 17 June, and ending in Perth on 18 June.

Street also told ProPrint that the company had received more than 20 “major leads” on the opening day of Ipex, including firm interest from visiting Australian printers.

There was an Australian printer on the stand when ProPrint visited, and Street said he expected more to visit over the course of the show, including representatives of local franchise operations.
