Orora debuts digital corrugated printer

Orora is expanding its digital corrugated offering with a new press, jointly designed with Spanish company Limitronic.

The new press, called the Limitronic, prints direct onto corrugated board, in CMYK, with print quality from 180dpi to 360 dpi. It complements the company’s EFI Nozomi press, designed for significantly larger runs.

With an incredibly small footprint, it meets the space requirements of many sites, opening up new options for customers.

Essentially, Orora supplies the boxes directly to its customers, who can then use the Limitronic to produce short or limited run items, with variable print capabilities. It reduces the carbon footprint by minimising transport, while giving the customers more flexibility with on-site printing.

Andrew Russo, general manager sales and marketing, Orora Fibre, explains, “We can customise variable printing solutions, at different runs, on demand, whether at our site, or with an installation in the customer’s site.

“It is also a sustainable solution, as some customers may currently be using plastic labels on top of the corrugated box, whereas now they can print directly, avoiding the complication of plastic for the recycling process.

“It has a high standard, similar to a flexographic print quality. Being able to do that at the customer’s location creates a raft of new opportunities for us.”

The Limitronic will not be available for general sale, as Orora is selecting the appropriate customers to work with for installations.

Russo says, “This is a new product for us into the marketplace. With Orora, we like to make sure that new technology coming in has its expectations managed effectively. We have done in-house trials over the year, while the machine on display at Auspack will go into a customer location. It is the first of a few that we plan to commission for our customers.

“We are getting good interest, right across business segments, from larger FMCG accounts, to fresh businesses. So people can take a family of SKU products and customise at their location.

“Orora is leading in this space. We have the EFI Nozomi, the newest, largest, fastest inline digital printer in the marketplace. From a high-graphics perspective that has not been seen before in the corrugated industry. We now have that capability on the largest scale.

“In the ever changing world of authenticity, traceability, and sustainability, the Nozomi and Limitronic will help our customers achieve all of them in the market they are taking their products too.”
