Outdoor market makes massive January gains

The outdoor advertising market has followed up its record 10 per cent growth year in 2014 with a 15.9 per cent jump for the first month of this year.

Outdoor Media Association (OMA) figures show $42.7 in combined revenue for the sector in the month of January, with print-heavy categories dominating at 71 per cent of earnings.

The massive figure signals a much better start to the year than 2014, where the market only grew 1.75 per cent for the first quarter.

Print-heavy areas led the way by a hefty margin with billboards earning $17.9m for the month, followed by roadside advertising – including street furniture; taxis, bus and tram wraps and signs; and other small format ads – with $12.4m.

Transport finished with $7.8m while retail earned $4.6m.

Outdoor media usually sees more investment in summer as people are more likely to be out and about while the weather is good and exposed to more advertising.
