Pacific axes four print titles

Pacific Magazines is preparing to move publishing of health magazine Prevention back to the US in January, also revealing it will cease print editions of Practical Parenting and Bride to Be, and will axe Your Garden entirely.

Prevention is printed by Hannanprint, while Bride to Be is printed by Offset Alpine.

The move comes as the publisher reveals it is looking to revamp its portfolio of magazines under a new digital strategy, and will only invest in its top-performing mags such as New Idea, Better Homes and Gardens, marie claire and Women’s Health

Readers can continue to access Practical Parenting and Bride to Be online, however the last print issue of Practical Parenting will hit the stands on September 1, and the last print issue of Bride to Be is on sale now.

US publisher Rodale says it is currently seeking a new Aussie publisher for Prevention

Commenting on the print exodus, Pacific CEO Peter Zavecz says, “Our portfolio changes are designed to focus Pacific on its key consumer brands and categories and to build a stronger business, more able to provide outstanding multi-platform content experiences for our audiences and successful outcomes for our clients.

“The decisions announced today are part of a transformation process at Pacific which creates a more sustainable, future-focused business with stronger competitive advantage.”

The latest Enhanced Media Metrics Australia figures show Prevention only managed average issue readership of 133,000, Practical Parenting garnered 78,000, Bride to Be had 80,000 and Your Garden reached 198,000 readers.

Zavecz continues, “The decision for Pacific to cease publishing these tiles in print has not been an easy one. We are very sad to say goodbye to the talented staff and friends whom are affected by today’s changes.

“I would like to sincerely thank our staff for their contribution to these brands.”
