PANPA names Alan Armsden as new CEO

Armsden, who has 35 years experience across three continents, joined the PANPA team on February 2, 2004 after holding previous positions as editorial director of Redwood Asia Pacific in Hong Kong; editor-in-chief of Geographical Magazine; group general manager and editor-in-chief of Hong Kong Standard Newspapers Limited; managing director of British Magazine Publishing Company; and managing director of Mirror Publications.

Armsden started out his career as a reporter, and has moved through the ranks to work as editor, editor-in-chief and managing editor of a number of publications throughout Australia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. For the past two years, Armsden has been writing a historical novel set in Hong Kong.

Armsden says, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the team as CEO. My relationship with the association goes back many years, not only as a member, and regular conference attendee, but also as a volunteer conference worker.

“It is a time of great excitement at the PANPA office as we prepare to face the challenges of the years ahead; many of them in common with the industry we represent: growing our subscription base, remaining relevant in an ever-changing environment, harnessing greater income streams, maintaining readership rapport and enhancing membership benefits.

“The PANPA team has some innovative initiatives on the drawing board. These will become self evident in the months to come.”

Acting CEO Amanda Shepherd will step across to the newly created position of business development manager.
