The new French built MGI Meteor DP40 PRO is supplied in Australia by the Digital Impressions Group, and will be used by Paper Stop to print its designs onto the stationary sets it supplies to the retail market, in a move the company anticipates will underpin its nationwide expansion.
Steve Miller, managing director of Paper Stop says, “Digital printing is perfectly suited to stationary sets, because it is viable in short runs. We can also use a far larger design range, and if a design doesn’t work we are not left with a heap of unsold papers.”
Miller says he is asked every day for printed designs on his papers, but offset run lengths were not viable. However he became attracted to the digital print concept, and began to analyse the market for a solution.
He says, “I first saw the MGI Meteor when it was advertised in Australian Printer. The versatility attracted me, for instance it can print on non-paper substrates such as magnets and plastics, which will open up new opportunities for us, we are already planning on producing printed plastic boxes. The fact that we are the first in Australia is not an issue, MGI is a very well established company with a great support network, including DIG here in Australia.”
The MGI Meteor DP 40 Pro is designed for printing on paper and plastic and other stocks from thin bond to heavy covers including Chromolux paper up to 300gsm and synthetic materials such as Standard PVC, Teslin SP, Lexan, Polyester media up to 320 microns.
It will produce 2100 impressions an hour, and is equipped with a Print Station Manager that includes a Pantone certified Fiery rip.
Launched at Ipex 2006 the Meteor DP40 Pro manages ICC profiles and is enhanced by an automated colorimetric scalibration software program that includes a spectrophotometer and a linearization system that manages consumables to ensure the highest quality color-matching. The HPS (high fidelity) raster generator allows printers to modify the shape of dots and raster angles.
