Perth label maker powers up printing with new Mark Andy flexo press

The new eight-colour machine has twice the output of the company’s existing Mark Andy 2200, and managing director Ernie Cooley said he had been pleasantly surprised by the quality since the P5 was installed in December.

He added that he was also surprised by how quickly his staff took to it. He had heard they would need two weeks before they felt comfortable using the machine, but needed no more than 10 days.

The Perth-based label manufacturer looked at several presses but chose the P5 due to its competitive price, minimal waste and relatively quick set-up time, said Cooley. Another plus was the short web length – about 12m for the P5 compared with 35m for the 2200.

Cooley also said the 2200 had given the company a positive impression of Mark Andy, though added that spare parts had taken a long time to arrive.

Mark Andy’s local agent, Aldus Engineering, said the set-up had taken a week and gone smoothly.

“The P5 press includes many of the features of the P7 version, including servo drives, unique quick-change printhead and short web path, and is equipped with full GEW e-brick UV drying, chilled impression rolls, dual-sided Enercon corona, delam/relam, Trucolor web video, Harper ceramic anilox rolls and Rotometrics tooling,” said Aldus general manager Ian Guanaria.
