Perth posters promote public awareness

Perth printer Jason SignMakers has produced a series of high-quality vinyl posters for a public awareness campaign in the city’s transport system.

The ‘Show Your Good Side’ campaign by public transport provider Transperth aims to hopes to encourage empathy and respect amongst transport users by sharing the stories of various commuters.

It features black and white photos of passengers from all walks of life, taken by internationally-awarded photographer Steven Laxton, accompanied by a short biography.

So far seven stories are on display in the Perth Underground train station under the CBD, four 2×2.8m posters and one 8×2.8m poster featuring three people.

Jason SignMakers director Chris Krishman says the printer already provides timetable panels, bus stop number decals, train stopping pattern diagrams for Transperth and does work for its annual Radio Lollypop charity drive, but does not usually do marketing campaigns.

“We are happy to be involved in such an important public awareness campaign,” he says.

Krishman says the company used Seiko M-64 wide format solvent inkjet printers to produce the four-colour black portraits and Seiko H-74s for the accompanying biographies.

The portraits were printed on Image Perfect IP 2524 white gloss vinyl at 360DPI, while the text panels were printed on Arlon DPF8000, a satin white, high tack PVC film, at 720DPI. A matte over laminate was then applied to all prints.

“High quality four-colour black printing is very hard to do right and requires care and attention to detail to get right,” Krishman says.

Several printers have won awards for four-colour black work recently, including Greenridge Press winning two golds at the Queensland PICAs for a black and white book cover.

Transperth says about 70 commuters were photographed and interviewed so more posters could be produced as the campaign continues. There is no defined end date for the campaign.

“It highlights that everyone is different, with a different life and a different story. Just like you,” the company says.

“So we are asking everyone on board to take a moment to consider the other passengers you’re sharing the journey with and be mindful of your actions. That little thought can make a big difference to everyone on board, including you.”
