PIAA narrows down search for CEO and board positions

Following its call to fill vacant board positions, the PIAA expects to make its selection from a short list of industry contenders when the Board meets on March 23. Since Susan Heaney’s departure in December 2015, another three Board members, Ross Black, David Leach, and Stephen Edwards have resigned from the Board. Speaking to Australian Printer, interim PIAA CEO Bill Healey says although the new Board members will have big shoes to fill, he feels confident the PIAA will find quality replacements.

He says, “We have lost some very good board members, despite what some people were saying, they were very capable people so that is what you are looking to replace. “There will be a selection made at the meeting or certainly a lot of discussion. It’s very important the board gets re-energised as quick as possible with high quality people. With the names I have seen, I am sure the replacements will be good quality.” Healey stresses that PIAA must follow convention. Therefore, it will fill the positions from the respective states of the members who have left. The PIAA has also expressed that it would like to appoint more women to Board positions to shift the current gender balance. The search for a new CEO has also continued. Healey says, “For the CEO position, there is a whole pile of applications. Headhunters have shortlisted and interviewed a number of people. I think they will present a short list at the meeting next week and the Board will consider who to interview. It is keen to fill the position as soon as possible.” A general election is due to take place in September/October. This will open up all Board positions for members to elect their chosen candidates.
