PIAA survey seeks print company views on workplace safety

The project is being run in conjunction with WorkCover and follows the signing of an agreement earlier this year between the NSW Government and Printing Industries in which the government committed to work with the industry to identify risk areas and solutions to minimise them.

Ken Stenner, national employee relations and OHS services manager for Printing Industries, says the seven question survey is brief to encourage wide participation.

He says, “We have kept it short and simple to encourage our NSW members to focus on the key issues and the whole thing should take only a couple of minutes for companies to answer.” Stenner adds that the basic message behind the joint Printing Industries / WorkCover campaign was that “safe business is good business”.

The survey asks participants to identify the most common areas of concern and provides options including workers compensation, OHS management systems, noise, manual handling, machine guarding, workplace stress and storage of chemicals. It also asks them to identify what they regard as the three most unsafe equipment or processes in the industry.

It seeks expressions of interest for future workshops, location preferences and possible topics of interest.
