
The organisation is looking for industry feedback on workers compensation as it sets to lobby the NSW government to create a specialised insurance scheme for the industry.
Charles Watson, PIAA national manager employee relations, OH&S and legal, said the move came as Workcover NSW announced plans to increase premiums.
“A specialised scheme for our industry would facilitate better OHS systems, specific industry injury management assistance and improved return to work outcomes resulting in lower claims and subsequent reductions in premiums,” he said.
“All of which would be based on our industry’s performance and not affected by the workers compensation performance of other employment sectors.”
The association has also published a standardised terms of trade documents, which it said could potentially save printers thousands of dollars when establishing legally binding terms and conditions.
The industry-standard, customisable ‘recommended terms and conditions of trade’ is available to download from the PIAA website.
Watson said: “While it can be selectively used to supplement a business’s existing terms of trade or tailored to specific needs, we recommend companies familiarise themselves with all its content and use it in its entirety for all their customer dealings.”
“The document comes with a guide to how best to do this.”
He added that any company wanting to develop a similar document from scratch would be charged “several thousand dollars” by law firms.
“We have done all the required work to create this benchmark document and will make it available to our members for free as part of our service commitment to them,” he said.
