Andrew Nalder, managing director of the point-of-sale (POS) specialist, said the company had been able to move into a “brand new market” since installing the machine in its Auckland hub in December.
“We are looking to expand from the POS market into packaging,” he said.
Nalder told ProPrint the investment, which came in at over NZ$1m had been worthwhile and already helped the company win a number of short-run packaging jobs.
The machine was installed in conjunction with an Esko Artwork Kongsberg XP24 cutting table. Nalder said the combination was having “revolutionary” results.
“The pairing of the devices has been a revolutionary team,” he said.
“The additional cutter is perfect for packaging jobs, but we have been having success on traditional and non-standard jobs as well, just this week we printed and cut 3,000 hand fans, a job we could not have dreamed of doing before the installation.”
The machine joins two HP Indigo 5000 digital presses, a HP Designjet Z6100 and an HP Scitex Turbojet at the 37-staff, two-site company.
HP is targeting the high-speed large-format Scitex FB7500 at medium and long runs of POS applications.
