Melbourne point-of-sale, signage and display producer POS Visual Solutions has just installed a HP Scitex FB550 flatbed UV, to assist with the expansion of the business.

POS Visual was founded by Reece Conlan in 2008 as a project management business which also supplied signage installations, however in the past couple of years the business has branched out into signage production.

“We were doing very well with the project management and national installation solutions,” Conlan says. “But I have always had a hankering for production – especially the need of being in control of quality and turnaround service for customers.”

The Scitex flatbed is POS Visual’s first flatbed UV machine and Conlan says since its installation he is saving money in production costs, labour time, and customers love it as well.  

“Although it can print at 39.9 square metres per hour in Express mode, because I am a stickler for quality we often run it at 18.5 sqm/hr or even 9.2sqm/hr photo-quality,” he says.  

“Some outdoor signage we can get away with 31.5sqm/hr, and the 1200 by 600 dpi printhead resolution is one of the best available.”

Conlan describes POS Visual as a boutique business and says its range of print services has broadened its appeal outside of the large format digital marketplace.    

He adds, “We also provide national and New Zealand installation capability for our clients, which for years now has been a solid part of our business model. Many jobs can fall down at installation stage; we make sure that does not happen.”

However, Conlan insists he has no regrets in moving back into production and he plans on growing POS Visual’s capabilities by exploring flatbed cutters.

The Scitex flatbed joins POS Visual’s existing gamut of HP Latex printer’s, the 360, 280 and 260 and also a Rollsroller flatbed applicator.
