The company says the report also illustrates how adopting environmentally friendly printing practices can save print service providers both time and money. The white paper can be downloaded from the Presstek website.
Kathy McHugh, chief marketing officer for Presstek says, “Presstek is well-known in the printing industry as the inventor of chemistry-free platemaking and a thought leader on environmentally sustainable printing practices.”
She says, “We have taken our 17 years of experience and expertise in this area and combined it with research from a wide range of industry experts to develop an informative white paper that will help printers of all sizes and types better understand the economic and environmental benefits of going green.”
The white paper reviews seven key areas where environmental and economic benefits can be realised in the production of print including inks and toners through to the printing equipment’s physical and environmental footprint.
The white paper is focused on the economic and environmental benefits of Presstek DI digital offset presses, and contains background information and definition of common terms associated with environmental sustainability.
Presstek says the paper also provides an overview of market forces that are inspiring printers to take a stronger interest in new, more environmentally friendly approaches to printing, which include:
- Increased competition, which requires finding new ways to serve customers
- Concerns around waste and toxins, that goes beyond printing on recycled papers
- The growing slate of regulatory legislation; increasing risk, and requiring more reporting and compliance
- Increased demand for shorter print runs that cannot be achieved with traditional offset economics
- Rising commodity prices, including fuel for shipping, that impact the cost base for print service providers.
