Print Bound expands to triple threat supplier

Print Bound says it will step out of the price wars, triple offset, double digital and add POS work when it moves into a Geon’s former 7000sqm facility this September. The plant in Melbourne will allow the OCA Group company to expand its capacity and diversify into new areas, including wide format, with a new 3.2m press set to be ordered. Naresh Gulati, CEO of OCA, says the expansion will make Print Bound a full-service printer, with design, warehousing and distribution services as well as the triple-threat printing capabilities. He is determined to avoid commodity basement pricing, and says, “We will be selling on quality and innovation, not price. The price wars gripping the market are not good for our industry and we simply will not do jobs we cannot make a profit on.”

The relocation will provide a physical consolidation for Gulati’s Print Bound and BPO Print operations, which he merged in March, but he says should create jobs for printers. While Print Bound will not set itself up as a trade printer, the CEO says the company will do work for other printers and offer the new centre to the industry as a destination for printers around the world to study and swap ideas. He says, “Too often Australian printers have to go overseas to learn how to improve their business. “We have great skills and great manpower in this great country and there is no reason why we can’t be on the world map and be a leader in efficiency and innovation.” OCA recently launched its Easy Brochure Builder, developed by its subsidiary ObjectNext Software, to tailor brochure designs to the needs of individual customers for targeted direct mail campaigns. Gulati says the web-to-print brochure platform is a good option for printers to produce personalised brochures without investing in new kit they may only use occasionally. Printers can design and order the brochures via an online portal individually built for their client by ObjectNext. OCA then handles production and distribution. Gulati says, “Rather than miss the job or buy that machine, we can provide an outsource solution while they test the model and decide if they can justify the investment. “There is no point being saddled with equipment they do not use often.”
