Printers told to employ designers to move into high-value work

Speakers at the Lithographic Institute of Australia dinner said designers shouldn’t be seen as expensive overheads but content generators who could provide value-adding opportunities.

Printers need to work more closely with designers to produce innovative pieces using techniques such as letterpress, embossing, debossing and foiling.

The speakers were Watermarx Graphics co-owners Angela O’Dea and Alan Fawcett, Paper and Pixel owner Jean Kropper, Australian Graphic Design Association president Glen Barry, Justus Magazine editor Larissa Meikle, Lithographic Institute of Australia NSW president David Wells and JDA Print Recruitment owner James Cryer.

The function was held at Sydney’s North Ryde RSL on 23 October and attracted about 50 people.
