Brisbane printer Bailey Print Group has outclassed stiff competition from across the Asia Pacific and Japan region to claim two of the three grand prize wins at HP’s Large Format Sign & Display Digital Print Excellence Awards in Singapore.
The company has been operating as a family wide format printing business for 33 years. It is now run by siblings Samantha and Peter Bailey and employs 12 staff.
As part of its shift away from solvent based printing, the company purchased a HP 1500 and more recently a HP 3200 Latex printer to gain a bigger slice of the medical, aged care and education markets, all of which require stronger environmental credentials to meet health regulations.
HP notes the inks used in the HP Latex 3200 press cure immediately, are scratch resistant and UL Greenguard Gold certified.
Bailey says this has been met positively with clients, especially when it comes to interior print jobs including wallpapers, furnishings, wall decals and floor printing.
“Our clients are now looking for a greener and cleaner solution for their print needs. A cleaner product is now being specified to meet their environmental specifications,” company director Samantha Bailey told ProPrint.
To mark the shift the company decided to enter some of its work in the awards.
Overall, Bailey Print Group won in three categories including Decoration, Vehicle Graphics and Fashion Accessories, with their entries in Decoration and Vehicle Graphics taking out the coveted Grand Winner prize for the region.
The decoration category was won with a ‘printeriors’ style showroom which included printed cushion covers, furniture upholstery, roller blinds and tables.
A promotional ‘Fight Truck’ featuring larger-than-life cut outs of boxers Jeff Horn and Gary Corcoran in a mocked-up boxing ring took out the Vehicle Decoration category.
The company also won an additional prize for the Chameleon Ink clutch bag range made in clear PVC and acrylic with a felt core. The purses featured printed polyurethane interchangeable skins enabling them to be personalised for any occasion.
The purses are scratch resistant and free of volatile organic compounds.
“We had not entered competitions before because we are only 18 months in with HP after purchasing two latex printers,” Bailey says.
Bailey says they were all caught by surprise with their big wins.
“We were surprised and overwhelmed by it all,” she says.
“We have a strong and close working partnership with HP. They provide us with great technology and marketing support, something we have never experienced with other companies before.”
