Rawson Graphics is picking up the fallen Group Momentum in its latest, albeit unexpected, acquisition. Rawson will acquire Momentum’s intellectual property, software and clients, along with director David Minnett and four or five other staff. It will not, however, be picking up the more than $250,000 of debt reportedly accrued by Momentum to trade creditors, its bank and the Australian Tax Office.
Administrator Alan Hayes says the Crow’s Nest facility will close, with the equipment to be auctioned off on February 18 to help pay debts – with the bank and employees first in line for pay outs. Lachlan Finch, director of Rawson Graphics, says the two Sydney companies had discussed a merger before, but the abrupt fold of Momentum made immediate action necessary. Details, such as whether the business will now be merged with Rawson’s own digital arm, Satellite Digital, or if Rawson will opt to keep some of the Momentum kit, are still in the works. Finch says, “The first step was to secure Momentum.” He adds that Rawson does intend to take on Momentum’s customers, should they opt to continue with Momentum’s new owners. He says, “The idea is to provide continuity for Momentum’s clients at the level of service they are used to, and David will help with that.”
