Record Worldwide Online franchise owners dreaming big

Graeme Mattner said he and co-owner Jonathan Ban had already won new business since buying the Adelaide CBD franchise in February for more than $1 million.

He told ProPrint that they were pushing hard to win more contracts and might also install new machinery.

“Hopefully, over the next 6-12 months, we’ll see major changes here,” he said.

“Business isn’t easy. It’s been a bit of a headache, but that’s normal. We’re firing on all cylinders and looking to expand.”

Mattner said the franchise’s graphic design skills meant it could surprise customers by offering more than just conventional printing services.

“We pride ourselves on the fact we can take a job from concept all the way through to final product,” he said.

“We want to get the perfect job on time, every time, and exceed the customer’s expectations.”

Mattner and Ban previously worked for former owner Chris Donovan as a bookkeeper and graphic designer, respectively.

Their transition has been eased by having Donovan remain as managing director, which has ensured continuity for the customers and provided a “safety net” for the new owners, according to Mattner.

“From our point of view, even though we had been around the company for many years, it has been good mentoring.”

However, Mattner said they had found it challenging having to juggle so many tasks, and the increased demands that made on time management and attention to detail.

Mattner told ProPrint that while the two men had decided not to make major changes for the first 12 months, they were pushing ahead with plans to become one of the country’s few carbon neutral printers.

They also want to be good corporate citizens by employing Indigenous and disabled staff, he added.

Mattner said there was almost no limitation on what the 14-person shop could produce as they had full-colour and black-and-white digital printers on site and could also turn to a hub for a full range of offset and specialty diecutting machines.
