Ricoh roll-to-roll extended gamut printer wins EDP award

The Ricoh Pro L5130e/L5160e extended gamut latex wide format printer has won the roll-to-roll up to 170cm printer category of the European Digital Press Association (EDP) Awards.

The printers offer an extended colour gamut with the option of orange and green inks and mark an evolution of the Ricoh Pro L5130/L5160 latex wide format printers.

They also utilise Ricoh GEN5 industrial print heads and can print at speeds of up to 46.7 square metres per hour on outdoor high speed four colour mode and 25 square metres an hour on indoor standard four colour mode.

Ricoh says the addition of green and orange inks to the already available white delivers a significantly extended colour gamut and allows the accurate reproduction of a wider range of Pantone and brand colours. The feature also helps save ink and can reduce ink consumption by a significant percentage.

The technical judges at the European Digital Press Association said:

“The Ricoh Pro L5130e / L5160e is the only one wide format latex printer with extended gamut printing option with orange and green inks and the most versatile model with three different colour configuration for selection.”

Eef de Ridder, Vice President, Graphic Communications Group, Ricoh Europe, says: “It’s no secret that quick and simple accurate reproduction of vibrant colours helps deliver captivating print. These systems enable operations to produce memorable and vivid results on a broad range of applications. Their ability to reduce waste, ink, and energy consumption also supports sustainable and cost effective production. These are among the many reasons the technology was effectively used to create signage and social distancing applications during the pandemic.”
