Ricoh unveils Pro C7100x in Sydney

Ricoh has officially launched its Pro C7100x series with a white and clear toner which will allow printers to do ‘things they have not been able to do before’. The launch was held in Sydney’s trendy Carriageworks, in Eveleigh, on Tuesday night with a significant number of industry figures witnessing the unveiling of the device while sipping on a cold beverage. Ricoh says the Pro C7100x series is designed to support printers who are looking to enter new markets and explore new opportunities in digital print. The machines particularly target graphic arts businesses, direct mailers, service bureaus, digital printers and in-plant print centres.

Ricoh says more competitive applications are possible, including banners, POP displays, signs and marketing collateral. Speaking with Australian Printer, John Hall managing director of Ricoh Australia says the launch of Pro C7100X was ‘very exciting because this is the first time we have had a device with this capability in Australia’. Hall says, “It is part of our strategy to grow the production print business and the new model coming out will really give us an inroad into that production market. “The main difference with this device is now we have white and clear toner so the brand new innovation in the market will allow printers to do things that they have not been able to do before, for instance print on black with digital print. “This means they can produce different sorts of outputs for their customers, with high quality of course, and I think we are really getting into the part where we are directly competing with offset capability.” He says based on global reaction the company expects many of the machines to be sold in Australia. “We have sold eight already and that is before the launch and we are hoping to sell many hundreds,” Hall says. Raj Chandiok, national sales manager for production print with Ricoh Australia, says the series provides printers with the tools to “boost returns on investment, expand digital print services, and promise exceptional image quality to customers with fast turnaround times.” He says, “The ability to apply spot or flood clear gloss and white, and to quickly switch between the two, is unprecedented at this price point. We believe this will be a game changer for Ricoh customers.” The Ricoh Pro C7100x series prints at speeds of up to 90ppm, and supports paper weights of up to 360gsm in both simplex and duplex. An optimal image quality of up to 1200 x 4800dpi is achieved with Ricoh’s enhanced Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology.
