Rocket Signs targets green growth with Designjet purchases

The company took delivery of a Designjet L65500 printer (pictured) at the end of last year, and is currently awaiting receipt of the smaller Designjet L25500 to complement the larger machine.

Rocket owner Jayne Gower told ProPrint that the company had also purchased a Rolls Roller self-adhesive applicator from Digital Vision to help “cut back on labour” in its finishing department.

Rocket managing director Ross Hall pointed to the environmental benefits of using the latex ink machines as a primary motivation in opting for the Designjet printers.

“Over the past three years we’ve done a lot of research,” he said. “We’ve looked at UV options and low solvent. I was at the point of saying there’s nothing on the market to meet our objectives, and then HP released the latex ink machine.”

“We do a lot of printing for companies that have environmental policies. I believe this stance is only going to increase with more corporations and businesses adopting green practices. I wanted to have a unique selling proposition – a green proposition – which I now have.”

“There is no doubt that sustainable printing is the way of the future. I wanted to make a stand and position Rocket Signs as the most environmentally responsible printer in our market,” he added.

Hall also said the company has seen a productivity boost, claiming that the L65500 is faster than “all my solvent printers put together”.

Gower said the company is now looking at deploying software to help manage and build its client database.

Rocket Signs employs 25 people, including three graphic designers as part of its in-house graphic design service, and is oriented in the indoor and outdoor signage market.
