Sappi paper price set to rise again

Rising cost of raw materials will see Sappi increase its prices on speciality papers by up to seven per cent from January, the company says.

The price increase is set to affect coated and uncoated flexpack papers, siliconising base papers, rigid packaging products, containerboard and label papers. Sappi says ‘continuously rising costs’ have made it crucial for another round of price rises following its double digit hikes to other products this year. The rises come on top of the global paper manufacturer earlier this month increasing the price of woodfree coated sheets by 10-12 per cent and web paper by 5-7 per cent. All Australian merchants are currently pushing through price rises of up to 12 per cent on papers, which if accepted by printers will typically add up to four per cent to the cost of a job.
