Screen launches 1200dpi inkjet printer

Screen is releasing a new ‘high definition’ inkjet printer it says will produce better quality than ever before and print on more materials.

The company says the new Truepress Jet 520HD takes high volume inkjet printing to a quality level not achieved before.

Managing director Peter Scott says the Truepress Jet 520HD offers print quality ‘several levels higher than current high volume inkjet production’, with brand new printheads producing 1200x1200dpi at 50 metres a minute and 120 metres per minute at 600×600 dpi.

Screen says the inks are new high-density formulations for better wide-gamut colour definition, which he says is often a problem running high speed inkjet web presses.

The paper transport and drying system are also new, making it compatible with papers from 40gsm to 250gsm for the first time.

“The substrate flexibility will be more than welcome in the market as this has long been a limiting factor in high volume inkjet,” Scott says.

“Many offset stocks can be printed including heavier 250gsm board. We are releasing the 520DH as a wide-gamut cmyk machine, but there are modular stations built into the press that can accept additional print heads in the future.

“Each printhead is controlled independently so that, if you are only printing with one colour, all of the other printheads remain capped. However, there is no time delay when switching from a single-colour to multi-colour job.”

The printer includes new workflow software based on Screen’s Equios using the Adobe core.

It will be available to Australian printers in January with a 12-16 week delivery timetable.
