Screen takes up sponsorship of Galley Club Awards

The Galley Club awards night is an anticipated event in the book publishing industry and celebrates quality, design and innovation in books of all kinds, according to organisers.

Screen says that since the introduction of the world’s first high-volume digital inkjet press in full colour, the Truepress Jet 520, the press maker has enjoyed considerable global success with installations where short-run books are the mainstay of production.

The latest such installation is at Astra Printing in Wellington, New Zealand where publishers are already availing themselves of the capability to print as few as 50 high-quality copies of a paperback and re-print as needed, according to Screen.

Akira Hayakawa, managing director of Dainippon Screen Australia says, “Book production is very important in our global strategy with Truepress Jet 520. We are honoured to be accepted as Gold Sponsor of the Galley Club Awards. There will be an increasing number of entries printed digitally as this technology penetrates the market further.”

Also commenting, Michael Schulz, Galley Club president says, “Digital technology is having a profound impact on the way book publishing operates. Books that are out-of-print can resurface because now it is economical to print just a few.

“Companies like Screen are bringing new opportunities into publishing and all of us in the business should watch carefully.”

The 2010 Galley Club Awards take place in Sydney in July.
