Ligare, which is part of the Opus rint Group, says the resource efficiency audit will help identify where it can reduce GHG emissions, and the GHG audit will help measure the final GHG emissions per page of production. The company says it is still investigating the most appropriate offset program to use and is pursuing options which involve avoiding landfill.

Cliff Brigstocke, CEO of the Opus Print Group says the audit is being trialed first at Ligare with plans to extend the programme to the group’s other operations in the future.

He says, “Sustainability is a growing area of importance for small to medium printers and with the current economic climate people are concentrating on cost. So far we have been been able to marry sustainability with cost reduction enabling us to do the right thing by the environment and at the same time save money.”

Ligare has also announced that following participation in a sustainability vision workshop by a group of seven Ligare production and sales staff, the company has published its formal sustainability vision.

The company’s statement includes, “Ligare’s vision for sustainability is to be a strong, long-lasting book printing company that supports and values both its employees and the environment that supports us; to continuously improve our environmental impact through both innovation and improved efficiencies, with a regular review process; and, to always report on our sustainability progress to staff and clients with honesty and integrity.”

Also in the news, Ligare has recently fitted a Fuji timing device to its CTP plate processor, which is expected to save around 180,000 litres of water a year.
