The Fastset line has been fully integrated with a Horizon BQ470 prefect binder and is able to read barcodes that tell the three-knife trimming station the dimensions of each book as it is conveyed.
Michael Schulz, director of SOS Print & Media says the installation has cut the response time to urgent short run orders.
He says, “Our productivity has increased since we can stack some books three or four-high depending on thickness, and trim in one cycle. It is a perfect fit to our Kodak Prosper, Océ Varioprint and Ricoh digital press production.”
Schulz adds that SOS’ production can be from one copy to thousands with the Wilstead Fastset finishing line reducing operator manual intervention. All trim waste is extracted by vacuum, compacted and collected for recycling.
He says, “SOS’ publishing clients, educational course providers and even self-publishers will all benefit from this new automated capability to print, finish and deliver one book at a time, or ten, or one hundred or five thousand.”
Capable of finishing books from 150mm x 105mm up to 305mm x 229mm and any size in-between, the Wilstead Fastset 60/700 also features advanced electronics and sensors alongside robustly-engineered mechanical construction and pneumatics.
Local agent for Wilstead, Andy McCourt says, “Technology such as the Fastset, coupled with digital printing, revitalizes the book industry and passes cost benefits all the way upstream.
