Spandex launches first affordable hybrid, wide-format UV-curable inkjet printer

Customers report that the significant reduction of labour time, the richness of printed colours, and customer demand exceeds their expectations.

With the Gerber Solara™ UV2, Spandex introduced its first hybrid, wide-format UV-curable inkjet printer. The Solara™ UV2 is aimed primarily at screen-printers, sign-makers and other visual communications experts looking for more versatility and benefit.

The Solara™ UV2’s unique six-colour (CMYK plus violet and green) UV-ink range opens up a completely new array of applications while eliminating a significant number of production steps and finishing materials.

The printer can easily be switched between flatbed and roll to roll printing and prints directly on a wide variety of rigid and flexible materials up to 13 mm thick and 152 cm wide.

These include most rigid substrates such as acrylic, foamex, glass, PVC, polycarbonate, aluminium and a wide range of flexible materials. The instant-dry UV-curable inks provide increased UV durability and abrasion resistance without producing irritating odours or harmful Volatile Organic Components (VOCs).

The Solara™ UV2 enables the user to run an extensive portfolio of rigid and flexible materials up to 13 mm thick and 152 cm wide by combining the versatility of wide format roll to roll printing with the advantages of flatbed tables. The easy-access material handling system allows quick switching between all types of rigid and flexible substrates.

Printing directly on a wide variety of rigid and flexible materials, the instant dry and scratch resistant UV curable inks increase production efficiency and profits by bringing down the number of production steps and necessary finishing materials, yielding a faster job-turnaround while increasing the range of (often less expensive) materials that can be used.

The Solara™ UV2’s stepless head height adjustment and media sensor helps the user quickly find the required printhead position, which makes switching between materials of various thicknesses an easy task.

The easy height adjustment of the UV-lamps ensures that the optimum distance can be quickly set for each material to prevent possible heat damage and ensure proper UV-curing during the printing process.

Combining the unique UV-ink benefits with intelligent engineering allows intuitive operation and easy maintenance. The short cleaning cycles assure quick start-ups, significantly reducing time-to-production. The low maintenance requirement saves time and efforts and allows the system to be turned off for long periods with a minimum of start-up routines.

The Solara™ UV2 unique six-colour (CMYK plus violet and green) UV-ink range produces beautiful, vibrant colours and highly detailed, crisp images. The non-aggressive, instant-dry UV-inks provide increased UV durability, abrasion resistance and withstand a wider range of chemicals.

Prints can last up to three years outdoors. Furthermore, the inks provide improved colour consistency with better reproduction of spot-colours, producing a true sign-makers palette.

The absence of harmful VOCs and irritating odours eliminates the need for ventilation, making the Solara™ UV2 the safe and productive choice for screen-printers, sign makers and other speciality graphics producers. The Solara™ UV2 is the smart, durable investment.

The Gerber Solara™ UV2 is part of Gerber’s Matched Technology System™, assuring that the printer and its inks and substrates have been optimised for use with Gerber’s software, plotters, and routers and undergone accuracy, reliability, bonding, and durability performance tests.
