Spicers bringing high-spec finishers

Spicers are partnering up with Italian wide format finishing machine maker Elitron to bring select products under the Kombo brand to the Australian market. Already Spicers has installed its first system, into Melbourne outfit Mezographic, and they are already planning a second. The Spicers Sign and Display sector will supply Elitron’s finishing and cutting tables in what Jason Hay, Spicers national sales manager for sign and display, says will be a ‘total finishing solution’.

He says, “These machines complement any flatbed printing or packaging applications in our product portfolio, and those of our competitors. If you have been looking into Zünd, Océ ProCut, Aristo or Esko, then Elitron is a must-see.” Australia’s eight Spicers offices will offer the Kombo SD range, the Kombo TH and Kombo TAV to customers. The first sale and installation is already underway, with Mezographic ordering a Kombo SD+ automatic cutting and finishing plotter, which comes with cutting speeds of up to 102m per minute and die-less finishing. Frank Mezo from Mezographic says he is looking forward to the machine’s installation, which he first saw at Fespa in London last year. He says, “I was impressed with its speed. It is definitely the fastest cutter I have ever seen. “We purchased it to keep up with the output from our HP 10,000 and we are confident it will do so. The technology is revolutionary and the Seeker System is incredible. “We are even planning on a second installation, a Kombo TH, within the next six months.” Mezographic’s machine will be the latest of more than 2000 Elitron installations across 49 countries.

The company says the Kombo SD range, with Mezographic’s Kombo SD+ at the upper end, is dedicated to the new requirements of the cardboard, digital printing and signage industries. The flexible die-less finishing SD systems (made of solid cellular steel) have automatic tool pre-setting and a multi-tool cutting head for cutting, creasing and milling materials up to 120mm thick. The Kombo TH, which Mezo is also considering bringing on board, is a dual gantry cutting table; which Elitron says makes it twice as fast as similar machines. The Kombo TAV is a dual gantry, fully automated cutting table, and claims to be the only SuperPlotter with two different cutting heads on the market. It is integrated with Airo Panel to automatically unload materials; a vacuum panel that removes all worked and waste materials with great force and without leaving scraps behind. The systems can be equipped with Elitron’s Seeker System, a digital eye that automatically recognises images and reference points, and the Video Projection feature for a better material yield. Elitron also supply software packages for its cutting systems, which are used in industries ranging from footwear and leather goods to furniture and upholstery, visual communication and packaging. Hay says, “With 20 years in the business, we are obviously wholly confident of Elitron’s expertise in this area.”
