Founded in
1999, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an
independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation which promotes
responsible and sustainably managed forests through independent third party
certification.
By
complying with the PEFC's assurance mechanisms, Spicers builds on its already
reputation of assurance and reliability among Australia's print
and design industries. It follows the company's previous market-leading
initiative when, in 2005, Spicers, along with fellow PaperlinX merchant Dalton,
became the first paper merchant to be certified under the Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC) Chain of Custody scheme.
Spicers
regards the dual PEFC and FSC endorsements as a boon to its clients, who will
now be able to enjoy an even wider choice of environmentally responsible paper
grades.
Spicers
also hopes that greater exposure to high-quality green papers will help educate
and inform customers on the importance of addressing their own environmental
performance.
Spicers
Paper holds PEFC certification number SGS-PEFC/COC-0160. The full list of
available paper grades will filter into the market over the coming months.
