Stora Enso upgrades Performa

The company has developed an even whiter and brighter board surface that it says ensures optimal color reproduction and a smooth surface ideal for chocolate packages. One of the first companies to switch to Stora Enso’s upgraded CTMP board is Kraft Foods.

CTMP (Chemi Thermo Mechanical Pulp) combines the benefits of FBB and SBS board. Packaging boards based on CTMP combine the stiffness, runnability and high yield benefits of FBB with the chemical purity of SBS boards. Stora Enso Consumer Boards’ total production capacity for sulphate pulp and CTMP is approximately 2.45 million tonnes and the company intends to stay number one in the market.

Joakim Stockhaus, sales director, Stora Enso Packaging Boards, says, “We were the first to introduce CTMP products for confectionery companies in the beginning of 1990s and today we are the biggest producer in terms of market volume. Our aim now is to further increase market share and launch the upgraded Performa CTMP board in all odor- and taste-sensitive product areas. Major brands have indicated that the upgraded Performa will boost their sales because of the improved printability of the package surface,”

Stora Enso claims by using Performa CTMP board, 10–20 per cent lower grammages can be applied compared with conventional SBS boards – without compromising strength, convertibility or any other key performance factor. “Additional benefits include high whiteness and brightness, which are appreciated brand-support features in confectionery packaging,” underlines Stockhaus.
