Sun shines at drupa

Developed in partnership with Inca Digital Printers, Sun Chemical’s high-speed ink jet process for corrugated packaging allows full-colour sheetfed printing on corrugated substrates at more than 10 times the speed of today’s inkjet technology.

Sun Chemical has dubbed the process FastJet. It utilises state-of-the-art pigmented UV inks developed by Sun Chemical on an array of fixed ink-jet heads, producing high-quality colour at a linear print speed of 100 metres per minute and a resolution of 200x300dpi, at a print width of 520 mm. This level of output surpasses any product currently available in the market.

“This represents a significant advancement for the packaging industry and will allow greatly improved graphic capability that can be easily customised through the use of variable data in a single pass on the press,” says Slembrouck.

Sun Chemical also launched a highly versatile process ink series called World Series‚ at drupa, designed to improve productivity and set a new standard for sheetfed offset printing.

“Printers have told us that they’ve been unable to find a set of sheetfed inks that can run on virtually all sheetfed presses and produce excellent results on most applications,” says John Adkin, sheetfed product director, Sun Chemical Europe. “World Series inks set a global benchmark and offer performance without compromise. The formulations are based on the latest technology, and the inks are designed to meet all four-colour needs.”

These inks are based on vegetable oils and are 100 per cent mineral oil-free. Adkin says World Series inks offer excellent lithographic performance on large- and small-format four-colour presses- including perfecting presses. These inks can be used on a wide variety of substrates including coated papers and boards used in commercial, publication and folding carton printing.
